Church meals, the Good Stewards way

Walk the whole table first. Plate once. Vegetables and protein first. Dessert on the small plate, three slow bites you actually taste.

The full lesson

The Sabbath meal and church dinners are not the enemy; they are the classroom. Fried chicken, mac and cheese, rice and beans, banana pudding, sweet tea — they belong at the table. We teach portions and pace, not elimination.

The eight steps: walk the whole table before picking up a plate; fill half the plate with the vegetables and fruit that are there; add a palm of protein; choose one starch you love most, a cupped hand; water or unsweet tea (half-sweet if you like); dessert you would miss, on a dessert plate; sit with your back to the table and talk to people; if it was a big meal, dinner is lighter and tomorrow is normal — no punishment, no skipping.

Remember

  • Walk the table, plate once.
  • Dessert on the small plate.
