Eating better without becoming a cook

Rotisserie chicken, bagged salad, frozen vegetables, canned beans and a microwave cover most of a good week.

The full lesson

You do not need to love cooking. Tier 0 meals are assembled, not cooked: a rotisserie chicken, a bagged salad, a microwaved potato, canned beans, frozen vegetables steamed in the bag, Greek yogurt and fruit, eggs in the microwave. Tier 1 adds one pan and fifteen minutes. Your recipes are filtered to your tier, and every recipe has a "Make this easier" version with fewer ingredients, store-bought shortcuts and less cleanup.

Budget rule: eggs, canned tuna, frozen and canned vegetables, beans, oats, bananas, popcorn kernels and store-brand Greek yogurt are the cheapest good food in any store.

Remember

  • Assemble, don't cook, if that is your tier.
  • Every recipe has an easier version.
