The drink that never fills you
Sugary drinks are the easiest calories to remove because they never made you full in the first place.
The full lesson
One 20-ounce soda or sweet tea a day is roughly 240 calories — about 25 pounds of fat a year if nothing else changed. Juice is similar; "energy" drinks and sweet coffee drinks can be more. They are gone in minutes and they do not turn off hunger.
The swap ladder: Tier 1, make one of them half-sweet or a smaller size. Tier 2, one a day max. Tier 3, zero-sugar versions, flavored sparkling water, or water with lemon, with the real thing as a Sabbath treat. Diet drinks are an acceptable stepping stone; water is the destination.
Remember
- Liquid calories do not satisfy.
- Move one tier at a time.
Try this: Replace one sugary drink today with water or a zero-sugar option.
